Raque Ford uses sculpture, performance, dance and painting to express female identity narratives. Ford's sculptural paintings examine the personal by juxtaposing combinations ranging from feminine and masculine, grayscale and color, firm and supple. For example, Ford's use of chains simultaneously represents luxury brand jewelry and violence. “I think I struggle with balancing the desire to be uninhibited and being way too self-conscious. You can see that in my work,” Ford told Cultured Magazine in its 30 Under 35 2019 feature on her. This sentiment epitomizes Ford's videos, which often use home movie capture and editing to explore the cultures created by performing identity and appearance. Ford also examines themes of mother daughter relationships in her writings, the words of which often come into being as laser plexiglass die cuttings.
